The FBI is investigating possible anti-Semitic hate crimes at the University of Pittsburgh

The FBI and the University of Pittsburgh are investigating a possible anti-Semitic attack on a Jewish student, the second such incident in a month.

The unidentified student was leaving campus Friday morning when he was attacked by a gang of six to eight men, NBC News reported. At least three of the suspects were in their early 20s, according to authorities.

“During the attack, the actors used anti-Semitic language. “A bystander intervened and stopped the attack,” University of Pittsburgh Police said in a news release, classifying the incident as a “hate crime/hate assault.”

The victim’s condition is unclear. The FBI has launched its own investigation into the attack to determine whether it meets the criteria for a federal hate crime.

The latest incident came after two Jewish students at the university were attacked by a man with a glass bottle on August 29.

The suspect in that attack, Jarrett Buba, is now charged with assault, harassment and resisting arrest.
