October means the nights are getting longer and longer, and if you’re a big movie watcher like me, there’s a fantastic selection of films available on Netflix next month.

You may have noticed that we’re taking a non-horror-oriented approach to this list (with one or two exceptions), as we covered some of our Halloween movie picks separately last weekend. In addition, we have also listed all of Netflix’s Halloween offerings separately.

As always, we’ll split our list in half below. We’ll first cover our most anticipated upcoming Netflix original titles. These are published worldwide so you can see them on the posted release date no matter where you live. We’ll then focus on some licensed titles that are available specifically for Netflix in the US, although they may or may not be available in other territories.

The best Netflix original films will be released in September 2024

Woman of the hour (2024)

Coming to Netflix: October 18th

We had some slack because we didn’t add this to our Halloween list a few days ago, and while it fits the bill, I wanted to save it here since it looks like it could be a big hit if you do Considering that we know Netflix users love their true crime. The film is Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut and attempts to retell the story of Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who looks for a suitor on a dating show in the 1970s and chooses the charming bachelor Rodney Alcala. The problem? He’s a serial killer. Kendrick stars alongside Daniel Zovatto, Tony Hale and Nicolette Robinson.

We have a lot more to do Woman of the hour In our full preview of the film, we look back at how it was first a Netflix project before becoming independent and then being picked up again by the streamer.

Lonely planet (2024)

Coming to Netflix: October 11th

While Netflix’s October film production focuses primarily on horror and thriller films, there is also a romance headlined by Laura Dern (an Oscar winner for Netflix for her supporting role in ” Marriage story) and Liam Hemsworth (the new Geralt for Netflix). The Witcher from season 4). Directed and written by Susannah Grant, the film follows an author who takes time out from her busy life to travel to Morocco, where she begins a steamy romance. Of course, we haven’t seen too much of this film yet and we feel like it’s going under the radar, but a film like this is 100% about on-screen chemistry, and if the duo succeeds, they could This may be one of the best Netflix films in the genre.

As for documentaries, Netflix is screening RJ Cutler’s documentary about a larger-than-life character this month. We’re referring to Martha Stewart, who took on many hats throughout her life, all of which are showcased in this exclusive new documentary. Apparently Netflix is already putting a lot of stock in this document, considering it’s listed on the FYC website, suggesting they think it could be up for some awards at the Oscars early next year.

Some true classics often alternate on and off Netflix, and one of Al Pacino’s defining roles in Scarface fits right into that category. The film will now air again on Netflix on the first of the month for a set period of time. The film is often mentioned in lists of the greatest films of all time and is only really topped by The Godfather in most people’s eyes, and if you’re being compared to that, you’re in good company. It’s set in Miami, Scarface gives you a glimpse into the anti-hero’s mind before we had Walter White and Tony Soprano, and gives us a glimpse into how a Cuban immigrant became one of today’s biggest drug dealers. It still looks like a billion dollars, and Pacino has delivered career-defining performances alongside Michelle Pfeiffer.

Confused (2020)

Coming to Netflix: October 14th

When we predict who will be in the top 10, we can always assume that an action movie with a big movie star like Russell Crowe always has a surefire chance of ranking well. That may be the case with “Unhinged,” which seems more geared towards action thrillers than Netflix’s “BEEF,” which is about an unstable man who becomes increasingly angry at a woman after a relatively natural confrontation at a busy intersection. Caren Pistorius and Gabriel Bateman are the other two big stars of the film, released in 2020 by director Derrick Borte. Most reviews praise Russel’s performance, even if he plays the role of a mad man a little too well. This movie will stress you out from start to finish.

Girl chases boy (2024)

Coming to Netflix: October 10th

There are some really great films coming out on the first of the month, but we wanted to highlight them Girl chases boy because we are fascinated to see what it looks like on our screen. We don’t have the highest standards of quality. Still, we expect it to be interesting since it was originally conceived, developed and filmed as a two-part special originally intended for HBO Max but is now coming to Netflix! Peyton ListBea and Michael Cimino star in the project, which tells the story of a boy who befriends the ghost of a 1920s girl who lingers in his new home, forming an unlikely but deep bond that spans decades.
