What would the FHSAA football postseason look like in the new College Football Playof?

The end of the 2024 Florida high school football season in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) is coming to a close, but with that, we’ve considered a specific hypothetical scenario: How would the FHSAA football playoffs play out The new look Should this 12-team College Football Playoff format take place this winter?

We at High School On SI Florida ranked the top 12 teams last week based on the latest FHSAA high school football rankings. From there, we’ll show you all six matchups and some of the teams that would be in the bubble in this hypothetical scenario.

Below are the matchups:

The Battle of Northeast Florida teams face off between top team Nease and bottom finals club Raines. Collin Drafts has done a really good job with the Panthers this season and is in the conversation for Coach of the Year at Florida State. This would be a defensive game that would be limited to the final quarter.

Wait, wait. Didn’t we already see this game from the regular season? Why yes, you did, and that’s why we’d love nothing more than to see a redux between the Rams and the Dreadnaughts Part II. The first meeting on September 6th was an absolute blast as Lakeland edged Lake Mary 35-34 in overtime behind a great performance from MVP candidate Shanard Clower. I’m sure Noah Grubbs would like a second chance at the Dreadanaughts.

Miami Norland’s talented defensive front against Venice’s offensive line would be a sight to behold. The Indians have proven their ability to run the ball effectively against almost anyone, even IMG Academy. We feel this game represents a high score for both clubs and has the makings of an all-time classic between the two powerhouses.

The most exciting competition when it comes to not having all of the family’s high school stars on one side would certainly be between the Jaguars and the Royals. In Jeff Conaway’s second year, First Academy has made a rapid rise to the top, becoming one of the best teams in the state. Possession victories over Edgewater and Sanford Seminole confirmed this. When moving to Gadsden County, the Jaguars only suffered one loss against Coffee (Georgia). A good performance against Venice in preseason makes this game a must-see.

It’s hard not to imagine Jones simply relying on quarterback Dereon Coleman’s playmaking abilities and letting him carry him to the next round. For what the Fightin’ Tigers have done all season, staying on par with every team across the state, we would imagine this is another accomplishment. If they do meet, we think it should be at the good old Camping World Stadium.

Armwood defeated Tampa Bay Tech 31-27 in Week 3

Would the 305 get revenge after the Hawks came to South Florida and beat Miami Norland in the preseason? This would arguably be the best game of all as far as first-round matchups go, as the Rockets just beat Miami Norland for the GMAC championship and the Hawks have proven themselves to be the best team in the Tampa Bay area. Grab your popcorn and watch two very talented skill groups compete in this game.
