Ingham and Clinton counties are among the most affordable places to live in Mid-Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Data from the 2023 U.S. Census American Community Survey shows Ingham and Clinton counties are among the most affordable places to live in Mid-Michigan.

Although the counties are relatively affordable, the median income and median home price are miles apart. Houses cost about three times the annual household income.

The data found that the median income in Ingham County is $63,000, with the median home price at about $190,000.

As for Clinton County, the median income is about $92,000 and the median home is about $276,000.

“It’s still out of reach for a lot of people to come in and own a home,” said MSHDA’s Josh Pugh.

Josh Pugh said more work needs to be done in our state when it comes to housing, such as building houses.

“We need to do more to ensure more people can afford to own a home,” Pugh said.

Remax real estate agent Rayce O’Connell sells homes throughout Mid-Michigan. O’Connell said that while we are doing better than both areas, people are still struggling to buy.

He recommends home buyers contact the Capital Area Housing Partnership and the Ingham County Land Bank for help.

MSHDA also offers assistance to those in need.
