Yung Gravy makes headlines for free concert encouraging young people to vote

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Hundreds of students and community members celebrated with artist Yung Gravy Wednesday afternoon before heading to the polls.

Event group Daybreaker is hosting its first-ever “Party to the Polls” tour across the United States to make voting a personal, interactive and exciting event that attracts young people.

The group stopped in Madison Wednesday afternoon, bringing dancing, free food and a party with UW Madison alumnus Yung Gravy to promote civic engagement.

The event took place at Liquid, a nightclub right on the UW-Madison campus.

After the festivities, participants marched to the polls alongside Yung Gravy to cast their first in-person mail-in ballots at the UW Memorial Union.

“The impact is enormous. We’re getting thousands and thousands of young first-time voters, students, low-propensity people, students who are less likely to vote,” said Radha Agrawal, co-founder of Daybreaker. “They somehow see something exciting, get inspired to be civically involved and come out and vote.”

With many college students voting in their first presidential election, Daybreaker hopes their events will result in higher voter turnout.
