Early gameplay leaks for Tron: Catalyst

Early gameplay leaks for Tron: Catalyst

While Tron: Catalyst was only announced as a sequel to Tron: Identity earlier this month, it looks like gameplay footage of it has already leaked, courtesy of a game tester who doesn’t seem to care about NDAs (non-disclosure agreements).

For those unfamiliar with the upcoming game based on the Tron license, it is developed by Bithell Games and published by Devolver Digital. Tron: Catalyst is a brand new, story-driven, isometric aciton adventure title set in the location of the Arq Grid introduced in Tron: Identity.

Yes, the actual “gameplay” we see doesn’t really show anything exciting, but a leak is a leak, right? According to one person on Reddit, this leak comes from a playtest that people can log into, and I suspect this leaker doesn’t care if they lose access. This is apparently the first mission of the game, although we see a lot of walking and running and only the game’s protagonist talking to other characters in the game.

No checkered flags in sight, but still lots of fun!

Unfortunately, we don’t see any Light Cycle action or even combat, although we did get a glimpse of it in the reveal trailer earlier this month. If you are one of the people who played Tron: Identity, you may have noticed the change in gameplay. Also developed by Bithell Games, Identity was a visual novel puzzle game released in 2023 for PC and Nintendo Switch. It is set thirteen years after the film Tron: Legacy, in which the player takes on the role of Query, a program that investigates an explosion in the repository, leading the character to uncover secrets about the world in which the programs live. If you’re curious, check out Game Rant’s review on our sister site, which says: “Despite the limited exploration, fans of the Tron universe who enjoy visual novels will enjoy the decision-making of a story that’s far from the usual plays.” digital and non-digital protagonists.”

As for the new Tron game in development, In Tron: Catalyst, you can play as the protagonist Exo, an extremely resilient and resourceful program that has a power known as Glitch. Unlike Identity, Catalyst is much more action-oriented and features Exo, who wields an Identity disc and can cycle through the light cycle.

Tron: Catalyst is scheduled to release sometime in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
