INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers open the 2024-25 season in Detroit against the Pistons. The Pacers beat the Pistons last season – despite their struggles with other teams in the lottery – but Detroit has veterans Tim Hardaway Jr. and Tobias Harris among its young core of Cade Cunningham, former Purdue star Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Jalen added Düren. Follow here to keep up with the Pacers tonight.

7:00 p.m. ET Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Dustin Dopirak: Pacers 115, Pistons 106

The Pistons appeared to be strengthened in the preseason by new coach JB Bickerstaff, whose tenacious defense made the Cavaliers a tough opponent. Going in the top five of the NBA Draft has produced a lot of young talent over the past four years, and Bickerstaff is hoping to make his mark. The Pacers sleepwalked through the end of the preseason, so a fiery version of the Pistons could shock them. We expect Indiana to pull away at some point, but don’t be surprised if the Pistons take the lead.

ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Pacers a 63% chance of winning.
