Mount Vernon police arrest a man for gun possession

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS) – Officers in Mount Vernon, Illinois, arrested a man after receiving a report of a domestic dispute.

According to Mount Vernon Police, at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, officers responded to the 200 block of South 19th Street for a report of a person in possession of a handgun during a domestic dispute. The person was later identified as Roderick Burnett Jr.

Schools have been notified and have taken precautions due to the proximity of the call.

During the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Burnett’s residence and served by MVPD officers and detectives. According to police, a firearm, ammunition and decaying deceased dogs were found in the apartment.

Burnett Jr. was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of armed violence, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and aggravated cruelty to animals.
