Don't worry gamers, according to a new leak, new AMD Ryzen CPUs will still work with your old motherboards

AMD continues to support its AM4 motherboards well into the AM5 socket with some of the best processors on the market, and a new leak seems to prove this as it reveals several upcoming AMD Ryzen processors that will work with the older generation boards are compatible.

New leaks, the first from reliable X-leaker (formerly Twitter) @momomo_us and the second from research by Wccftech, tell us that three upcoming processors will work with the AM4 motherboard. The former leaker published the three chips – the AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT, Ryzen 5 5600 and Ryzen 3 5300G – as well as specifications for the 5600.

The latter confirmed that Asus and MSI have updated their motherboard compatibility lists to include these chips, although other manufacturers such as ASRock and Gigabyte have not yet done so.

What makes this even more interesting is the fact that other AM4 processors like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D are gradually disappearing from the supply chain. If this leak turns out to be true, AMD will replace it with three new chips that can support this motherboard.

The Ryzen 5 5600XT is expected to have six cores (12 threads) with a base clock of 3.8 GHz, the Ryzen 5 5600T is expected to have six cores but a base clock of 3.5 GHz, and the Ryzen 3 5300G is expected to have a quad -Core feature chip with Radeon Vega graphics.

AMD continues to support AM4

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that these leaks are accurate as this would be excellent news for budget-conscious gamers. However, these reports are acknowledged by an earlier announcement from AMD during Computex 2024, which revealed that the Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT are compatible with AM4.

The prices for these two chips are pretty solid too: the former is priced at $359 (around £280 / AU$536) and the latter sells for $249 (around £195 / AU$373). It seems that while AMD is still giving us high-end chips designed to compete with the likes of Nvidia, it is also focused on bringing more affordable chips to market for those who don’t have the means to buy one entirely Buy new processor motherboard.

AMD’s continued support for AM4 motherboards is beyond commendable and, frankly, should be more of an industry standard, especially if the component in question is still used by a large install base. Once AM5 becomes the new dominant technology in the future, I hope the tech giant treats it with the same dedication.
