What is the most popular Halloween movie in your state? Find out here!

It’s spooky season and that means almost everyone is watching horror movies right now. Even more casual observers of the genre delve into the world of slashers, hauntings, monsters and more to get into the spirit of the season. The folks at Roku have offered some insight into what people in different parts of the US are looking for for their Halloween viewing this year. So what is the most popular Halloween movie in your state in 2024? Take a look…

There’s a lot to process there. For one thing, Tim Burton gets a fair amount of love corpse bride is at the top in California, Arizona and several other states. Meanwhile, Roku revealed that the original Beetlejuice was the most searched Halloween title on Roku in September, accounting for 1 in 10 Halloween searches for the month of September. That probably had a lot to do with the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuicewhich was recently available on VOD.

Despite the general popularity Beetlejuice did not take the top spot in any state. The northwest was particularly popular Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myerswhich is an interesting surprise. As far as big franchises go, Seen And A Quiet Place: Day One also occurred in Wisconsin and Florida, respectively.

One of the more interesting things is the sheer dominance of Tyler Perry in the South. With Boo 2! A Madea Halloween in a whopping nine states at the top of the list. Mississippi also had the first Buuuuh! A Madea Halloween as his top film.

Another interesting element is that much of the card is either Gateway or PG-13 horror. Practical Magic, The Addams Family 2, Halloweentown And Coraline everyone was present, among other things. This makes sense considering it’s about wide popularity and there are lots of families looking for things to watch.

The Mist (1980)
John Carpenter’s The fog (1980)

I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that this is John Carpenter’s original classic Halloween is not ahead in any state. Still, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers was number one in West Virginia. Imagine that. However, Hawaii demonstrated good taste in producing Carpenter’s The fog his top film.

It should also be emphasized that these are Roku numbers only and therefore do not represent the entire streaming landscape. Still, it’s a fun little snapshot of what’s popular in the world right now. According to Roku, one in five streamers using their devices were looking for Halloween content in September. Additionally, Roku streaming households were 23% more likely to search for Halloween titles in September 2024 compared to September 2023.
