Notre Dame radio call for Bryce Young’s blocked field goal

Notre Dame’s special teams dominated Georgia Tech

Notre Dame defeated Georgia Tech in all phases of the football game last Saturday in Atlanta. While it’s always great to see the Irish dominate an opponent offensively and defensively, there’s just something unique about the play of great special teams. It just hits differently.

Against the Yellow Jackets, Notre Dame made two fake kicks for first downs, one from former QB Tyler Buchner, plus a blocked FG from Bryce Young. This type of well-rounded three-phase hit on the road is exactly the type of performance Freeman was looking for for his team.

A bright spot in an unfortunate situation for Notre Dame

Unfortunately, Notre Dame has been hit hard by injuries this season. This has overloaded the squad and forced many young and inexperienced players to become key contributors. Although it is very difficult to win with so much youth on the field, there is an advantage to this process.

The snaps that young first- and second-year players like Bryce Young and others on the defensive side of the ball are getting now will pay dividends for Notre Dame down the road. From Drayk Bowen to KVA to Leonard Moore to Adon Shuler and more, these players are not overwhelmed by the moment and it shows.

These players will not only come out on top because of their early playing time, but will also develop into leaders of the program. It is a pleasure to see the future of the program contribute to successful endeavors as we know these players will continue to get better and grow together.
