8 trendy color combinations fashion people are wearing right now

Earlier this week in Heathrow I was forced (forced!) to browse Loewe’s duty-free boutique while my husband picked out a sandwich at Pret. Among the many covetable accessories was Loewe’s Knot T bag in a deep oxblood hue with knotted leather accents in an unexpectedly bright emerald hue. It got me thinking that burgundy – one of the season’s biggest trends – is massively underrated in terms of its compatibility with other colors. And how might a little styling inspiration be appropriate? Just to ensure that all our Burgundy purchases reach their true potential.

Even before this current trend, burgundy has long been one of the most popular neutral shades in the fashion world. It’s more interesting than your standard black and camel, but feels just as luxurious and is a little reminiscent of olive green or deep navy blue. And like any good neutral, it’s endlessly versatile in terms of the colors it pairs perfectly with – some of which might even surprise you. Whether you opt for a classic color palette or like to add a little personality to your looks, these burgundy color combinations are here to inspire your fall outfit rotation.

With butter yellow

Monikh Dale’s feed is an accidental masterclass in burgundy color combinations, thanks to Bottega Veneta’s sardine bag, which she blends perfectly into many of her looks. It creates wonderfully unexpected palettes like this one with a soft buttery yellow (perfect alone, but even better with an olive green layer). I appreciate the little reminder to be brave enough to buy investment bags in something other than black.

With bright red

Great news for all of us who invested (and reinvested) in bright red pieces last year – they really do go perfectly with burgundy. A red turtleneck peeking out from under your burgundy jacket? A red clutch as an accent to a burgundy dress? Red socks with your burgundy slippers? They all work and even work better than you think.

With sky blue

The contrast stripes on a pair of Adidas Originals x Wales Bonner pants could be a color trend story all their own. Since these have long sold out in almost every size (though you can find the sneakers in the same colorway here if you don’t mind paying a premium), it’s up to us to recreate the magic—it really does fit into one Implement For an office-ready look, simply pick out the appropriate tailored burgundy separates to pair with the classic blue pinstripe shirt you probably already have in your closet.

With Navy

No matter what else happens, this will always be the exact color combination of so many school uniforms when I was growing up – and to be clear, given my ongoing obsession with uniform-inspired V-neck sweaters (and more recently, T-bar sweaters) . apartments), that’s really a compliment.

With winter whites

Fashion influencer Marilyn Nwawulor-Kazemaks wears the burgundy with white color trend.

I have to admit that I’ve hyped up Scandinavian-chic ivory denim for the cooler months more than once, but head-to-toe white layers with burgundy accessories? Pure luxury.

With brown suede

Fashion influencer Stephanie Arant wears the burgundy color trend with brown suede.

With suede being everywhere right now, it was only a matter of time before we collectively realized how perfectly it fits in with fall’s other top trend. The juxtaposition of the more casual, textured brown and the deep, luxe burgundy feels just right – the embellishments on this cardigan stand out even more, although I prefer to personalize the vibe by adding a brooch.

With Cool Grey

Fashion influencer Nnenna Echem wears the burgundy color trend with gray and brown suede.

If your job is a more serious office setting, then gray and burgundy will be your workspace that makes you feel comfortable during the week. But please note that according to Nnenna Echem, a trendy suede blazer is the perfect transitional piece to take you straight to after-work drinks.

With olive green

Red and green are a classic primary/secondary pairing on the opposite side of the color wheel, like blue and orange or yellow and purple. In my opinion, it’s all about finding the right shades to avoid appearing Christmassy – deep olive and khaki greens paired with bright burgundy tones will do the trick, especially when paired (à la Anouk Yve) with other classic fall tones.
