Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea takes a subtle dig at Texas QBs Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea downplayed the individual attributes that elite threat athlete, Texas backup QB Arch Manning and Longhorns gunslinger Quinn Ewers bring to the position, reducing both to systems -QBs.

While Lea was likely trying to praise Steve Sarkisian for his preparedness, the comment was about the QB question that the Texas head coach didn’t want to definitively answer.

“I believe this is a system on offense that doesn’t change dramatically in terms of who takes the snaps,” Lea said during a press conference on October 22 (h/t On3). “So we are preparing to defend the system. Obviously both played quarterback, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see both. They have a history of injuries there and you just never know.”

Lea believes there are only “subtle” differences between the two.

“There are subtle differences in the manner and style of the two boys,” Lea said. “Both are very talented and both performed very well. Certainly we watch both and we talk about both and we are away from both, but I think the attack is the attack. I don’t think that’s going to change too dramatically no matter who’s out there.”

Texas could be involved in a shooting at Vanderbilt

When the Commodores and Longhorns meet closely in Week 9 in Nashville, expect a high score. Vanderbilt scored at least four points in its two losses to Georgia State and Missouri.

Texas must recover from a poor offensive performance against Georgia in a 30-15 loss. They haven’t proven themselves this season considering they won against weak competition. Their opponents other than the Bulldogs couldn’t match the Longhorns.

If the losses don’t stop, Texas could experience turmoil.
