Does Christoper Nolan making a vampire movie appeal to you?

Channing Tatum finally takes on the role of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine and fans are loving it, myself included. One of the best “cameos” of the movie, his performance is being prasied all over social media. I would love to see Channing return as Gambit, however it is hard to say when a Gambit movie would fit into the MCU’s plans. After just this small taste of him, I cannot see anyone else in the role. He did a great job with the accent, and he looked incredible in the costume – not to mention those awesome action sequences. If he is not able to get his own movie, I hope he pops up along the way in movies like Avengers vs. X-Men (whenever we get it).

Deadpool & Wolverine delivered on a bit of fan-casting with Henry Cavill appearing as a multiverse version of Hugh Jackman’s X-Men hero. While it seems unlikely he’ll reprise the role beyond the movie, fans have been sharing their thoughts on who Cavill should play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he made his debut as Superman in the DC Extended Universe’s Man of Steel. Though Captain Britain and Cyclops remain the more popular choices, I personally think it would be intriguing to see him either play Nova, particularly since there’s a TV show in the works for the character, or even Mephisto, as I think he could both deliver on the Devil’s power as much as evil charm.

Henry Cavill was the latest to take flight in theaters, but the DCEU’s bleaker take on the Man of Steel never allowed him to truly shine. Brandon Routh had immense potential but was saddled with a boring movie. Tyler Hoechlin is a fantastic Clark Kent and Superman, being a top candidate. It is hard to put other actors above Tom Welling, as the star had ten seasons to develop his Clark Kent in Smallville. Ultimately, Christopher Reeve still stands as the most iconic take on Superman with a perfect dual performance, but David Corenswet could change things in 2025’s Superman.

Fast & Furious 11 is expected to be the final mainline installment of the long-running action franchise, and already looks to be racing towards a filming start next year. Vin Diesel recently confirmed having seen some concept art for the movie, including seemingly teasing it will involve Paul Walker’s Brian after the character’s absence since Walker’s death in 2013. While Furious 7 had the difficult task of concluding its filming and sending Brian off in a meaningful fashion, it did so pretty well with some well-executed CGI of the late actor, which makes the possibility of his return troublesome. As a fan of the franchise, it’s hard to deny Brian’s absence has been felt deeply these past few films, but out of respect for Walker and avoiding undermining the emotional ending he got, I don’t think he should come back for Fast & Furious 11.

War movies like Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan stand out as the most distinguished war films of their respective eras, but there are some unbelievable classics that slipped through the cracks and never achieved commercial popularity. Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line is my favorite war movie and it’s one that I insist is underrated and underappreciated. Not only is Malick one of the most impressive visual directors ever, but the cast is filled with A-list actors, and it’s got a stunning musical score

After a two-year wait, Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s release is finally right around the corner, currently set for a December 20 date, and yet no proper trailer has been released for the threequel by Paramount, save for a brief snippet of footage shown at CinemaCon in April. Though there is some concern this is pointing to a release date delay, I think it’s more likely Paramount is saving the trailer to be released around the same time as Transformers One, given the prequel’s family-friendly tone and leaving just enough time until Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s arrival to build anticipation.

While the Fast and Furious franchise may have been his claim to fame, and most popular role, Paul Walker had a number of great movies he was a part of before his death in 2013. While I think 2006’s Running Scared may be his most underrated movie to date, I think 2001’s Joy Ride is definitely my favorite, as it had a great Hitchcockian vibe to it and had a very tense pacing, with Walker and Steve Zahn also having great rapport as brothers.

Gal Gadot is reportedly not coming back as the Wonder Woman of the new DC Universe. With the role up for grabs, there are a few actors who could take Diana Prince in interesting directions. A fan-favorite, Alexandra Daddario would nail the Greek mythology aspects of Wonder Woman’s character after her role in the two Percy Jackson movies. That said, Andor’s Adria Arjona is the candidate I currently like the most for the role, being able to imbue Diana with charisma and fierceness, which are both traits of the hero. Ana de Armas would be a great high-profile Wonder Woman choice.

The live-action adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon is officially a box office flop, having made only $9 million in its global opening. Oddly enough, it has a strong 92% Audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes against just a 25% Critic rating. Critics have called it bleak and boring, but audiences overwhelmingly see it as a fun family movie. Unfortunately, it’s competing with box office juggernaut Inside Out 2. Sony probably would have been better off releasing Harold and the Purple Crayon in the winter, as it’s a strange choice for a summer movie.

Despite kicking off the franchise with Godzilla, the Monsterverse has steadily become more focused on Kong than any of the other monsters and Titans, particularly with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Skull Island on Netflix. As the franchise gears up to expand with a new movie, Monarch season 2 and Apple TV+ spinoffs, some are hoping for Godzilla to return to the focus, and I couldn’t agree more. With each new movie, Kong has been fleshed out as a hero while Godzilla’s ties to humanity have remained ambiguous, and it’s time for him to get the same treatment.

As development continues on the Marvel Cinematic Universe-set reboot of the X-Men franchise, fans continue to voice their picks for who should play the iconic mutant superhero team, including Rogue. While some minds may gravitate to the likes of Jenna Ortega or Millie Bobby Brown for the role, I’d personally be intrigued to see Mckenna Grace’s take on the character, as she’s not only shown an incredible acting range in the recent Ghostbusters movie and A Friend of the Family, but also an interesting mix of introverted and extroverted personalities with her characters that I think would suit Rogue perfectly. Additionally, given the MCU has recast actors in the past, Grace’s prior role as a young Carol Danvers could easily be a non-issue.

During Marvel’s 2024 Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Doctor Doom in the MCU. Though Doctor Doom is a good replacement for Kang, Robert Downey Jr.’s casting has caused mixed reactions. I’m happy to see RDJ back in the MCU, but I might have a hard time seeing him as anyone but Iron Man. I hope Doctor Doom will be an Iron Man variant in the MCU rather than the franchise ignoring Robert Downey Jr.’s history as the superhero.

The Dark Knight Rises featured Batman’s sacrifice to save Gotham, or at least it seemed to do so, as Bruce Wayne was later seen alive and well in the company of Selina Kyle. There are some theories as to how Bruce was alive, including a possible Lazarus Pit in connection to The Dark Knight trilogy’s Ra’s al Ghul and Bane’s “The Pit” prison. However, The Dark Knight Rises teased how Christian Bale’s Batman faked his death, as The Bat’s autopilot had been fixed while Lucius Fox thought it was broken, so Bruce could have ejected himself before the bomb exploded.

Robert Englund recently confirmed that he would not be playing Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise again in the future beyond a potential animated movie, leaving the door open for someone else to take on the role. Though the prior attempt to relaunch the franchise with the Jackie Earle Haley-led 2010 remake was largely dismissed by critics, Haley’s performance has stood out as one of the few good things about it for me, and I would certainly be open to him coming back. If not, other people I think would be great are Englund’s own secondary pick, Kevin Bacon, particularly as it would be a fun full-circle moment to see him go from slasher victim in the original Friday the 13th to an iconic slasher, Richard Brake, who is often incredibly haunting in the indie horror genre sphere, or if they want to go in a more quippy direction as the later sequels did, I would love to see Doug Jones or Matthew Lillard.

Not every horror movie ends with the villain getting what they deserve. Even when the hero kills the villain, there are times when it’s anticlimactic, or it doesn’t feel like true justice because of what the villain had done to their victims. Ready or Not has the most satisfying horror movie ending in my opinion. Watching the family get what they deserve one by one, and Grace coming to the realization that she’d won was perfect. It was gory and funny, leaving viewers on a high.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory season 2 featured quite a few shocking twists. We finally found out the identity of the Broker and learned the full story of Brooklynn’s faked death. I thought season 2 was even better than the first, with the character dynamics once again shining while the dinosaur action and dark themes were dialed up. As for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory season 2’s ending, I get why Brooklynn went with the Broker, but at the same time, it was awful to see it unfold. I think season 3 is set up to be even better.

Last December, Jason Momoa said that his chances of coming back as Aquaman in the DC Universe were “not looking too good.” Reports have stated that no actor from the DC Extended Universe’s Justice League will reprise their role in James Gunn’s DCU. Based on that, it seems like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was the end of the road for Momoa as Arthur Curry. However, that does not have to mean the actor’s time at DC is done. Momoa would love to play Lobo, and after teasing that he has had talks with DC, that could happen in the DCU.

Ke Huy Quan’s Hollywood resurgence is looking to continue with the release of the Love Hurts trailer, and I couldn’t be more thrilled by what it shows of the Oscar winner’s next big project. It really looks to be following the right lessons from Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody in melding humor with well-choreographed action, the tease of Quan playing two very different sides of the same character will allow him to show his range, and as a Seattle Seahawks fan, I’m quite intrigued to see how Marshawn Lynch holds his own in the film, but he looks plenty funny already.

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 isn’t doing well in theaters, but it’s been dominating VOD charts. While the movie is still in theaters, it became available for rent or purchase on streaming platforms on July 15. The movie has gotten mixed reviews, yet it’s engaging enough that the 3-hour runtime is worth it for western and Costner fans. It’s also the first of four movies, which should be considered while watching, as there’s plenty more time for proper character development.

After the huge success of Captain Marvel, its sequel, The Marvels, was a box-office disappointment. It got mixed reviews, but I think it’s worth watching. The movie is under 2 hours, making it an easy, fun watch. Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris have great chemistry, and it was fun seeing all their characters come together after WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. I also thought the visual effects of their powers worked really well, unlike some other recent superhero movies.
