The goal of a Lawrence event is to celebrate cats and help them meet their needs by highlighting some of their best angles captured on camera.

According to the Lawrence Arts Center’s events page, the annual Cat Video Fest creates a video compilation of the most popular cat videos from the past year. Selected animations, music videos and Internet reels show how cat lovers do all kinds of business.

“It’s a family-friendly event and it’s great to see a multi-generational audience come together for the love of cats,” said Marlo Angell, founding director of the Free State Festival.

Similar screening events are held around the world to raise money for cats in need, Angell said. They are often organized in collaboration with local cat charities, animal welfare organizations or animal shelters.

Angell said ticket proceeds will support the film program at the arts center and a portion will also be donated to the Lawrence Humane Society. She said the event sold out quickly last year, which is why it will be held in a larger space this year.

Cat Video Fest 2024 is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Main Stage Auditorium at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased through the arts center’s website at this link. Online ticket sales end one hour before the start of the performance.

In-person ticket sales are also available at the arts center front desk or by calling 785-843-2787.
