The latest trend on Gay Twitter™ involves tops, bottoms, and… Alexis Rose from “Schitt’s Creek?”

“I’m a top!” “I’m a bottom!”

OK??? I am a slave for you??? I can’t hold it??? I can’t control it???

Maybe not, maybe yes. The point is, we can be whatever we want; ‘Cause baby, we were born this way!

“Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.”

“Don’t be…” and call yourself that!

The latest online trend to get gays excited appears to make fun of the long-standing practice of using bedroom preferences as identity. For decades, gay men have referred to themselves as “top” or “bottom,” with different characteristics assigned to each role. The regressive phenomenon has only gotten worse with apps encouraging users to publicize their favorite positions.

But what do these labels really mean? We know the stereotypes: tops are masculine covers; Butts are effeminate queens.

But then who gets to be a Lamborghini??? Or a Hollywood star???

The above lyrics are from well-known celebrity and gay icon Alexis Rose, who inspired gays around the world with her debut single “A Little Bit Alexis.” The fictional Schitt’s Creek The character played by Annie Murphy performs the song in front of one of the town’s namesakes, Jocelyn Shitt, and her mother, Hollywood star Moira Rose.

Critical celebrated Reviewed, the song is unforgettable. And we really mean… unforgettable!

The beat is booming, the lyrics are funny and bizarre. In other words, “A Little Bit Alexis” is the perfect gay anthem!

Alexis Rose may be stuck in Schitt’s Creek, living in a motel room with her brother (Daniel Levy). But as the head of Alexis Rose Communications, she’s also a media mogul.

As humans, we have the power to create our own reality. Alexis reminds us of this very important fact.

Anyone can be a top if they put their mind to it…or if they say so on a dating app!

Always looking for a trend, gays began adding more iconic lines to the rhetorical dance. Do you recognize the origin?

(“Over the Moon”)

(Mirage by Drag Race)

(“Dancing on your own”)

(aespa)

(nursery rhyme classic)

(Gaga)

(TLC “No Scrubs”)

(Taylor Swift)

The question of what actually causes someone to be up or down has been debated for generations, and there is still no clear answer.

A 2015 study found that gay men often resort to stereotypes when trying to figure out what role they might play in a relationship. This means that the entire practice is not based on pleasure; but rather social expectations. And that’s messed up! One of the true joys of LGBTQ+ life is the ability to transcend labels.

And if we want to label ourselves…why not be a Pride handbag??? Or a cheeky elf???
