Toys ‘R’ Us opens standalone store in Norridge Mall – NBC Chicago

The holiday shopping season is upon us and Chicago-area children of the ’80s and ’90s will get a chance to relive some memories when a famous toy chain opens its first standalone store in a suburban mall.

Toys “R” Us, which originally went bankrupt in 2018 before resurfacing in 2021, has operated primarily as a pop-up store in Macy’s stores across the country since the brand’s resurgence.

Although Toys “R” Us operates in several Macy’s stores in the Chicago area, the popular toy store will open its first standalone store in the region this weekend at the Harlem Irving Plaza in suburban Norridge.

The 10,000 square foot store will host Geoffrey the Giraffe at a grand opening ceremony on October 26th, with celebrations continuing throughout the weekend.

Activities at the store this weekend include face painting and balloon twisting, as well as gift bags for the store’s first 50 guests.

The store will officially open at 10 a.m. Saturday and will be located at 4104 North Harlem Avenue in Norridge.
