‘I don’t know what I’m doing:’ Cowherd picks Steelers with Russell Wilson as top-10 team

Before Sunday night’s game against the New York Jets, the national media pegged the Jets at 2-1 over the Pittsburgh Steelers. And early on it looked like they were right. But then QB Russell Wilson got his feet under him, the defense shut down and the Steelers ran away in the second half and took a 37-15 win.

No one is ever perfect when it comes to predictions, be it just picking a game or an entire season. But usually people are merciful when they are wrong. After all, football is just a game, right?

Not Colin Cowherd, though. On Tuesday’s episode of “The Herd,” Cowherd went through his Herd hierarchy of the top 10 NFL teams. And the Steelers cracked the list. But I dare say he did it reluctantly.

“Number nine, I don’t know what I’m doing, Steelers,” Cowherd said. “I mean, it’s the Russell Wilson Steelers. You look good. I mean, they had outscored the Jets by 24 points in the second half – nothing. I’m sorry, that’s impressive… I don’t know what to do. I’m not saying they’re a Super Bowl team, but I’m sorry. When they play at home, Russell Wilson doesn’t turn it up, can be pretty good in the red zone and has a home run threat with Pickens, a Super Bowl-winning coach. I’ve liked Najee Harris for years.”

That’s a lot of excuses for something Cowherd has complete control over. And I don’t know exactly who he’s apologizing to. But the reality is that the Steelers passed a major test Sunday night without some key players.

One of the biggest keys to the game was how the Steelers offensive line would perform against the Jets defense. Entering the game, the Jets had the third-most sacks in the NFL with 20. And the offensive line was in disarray again. This time it was C Ryan McCollum who filled in for injured rookie Zach Frazier.

Wilson threw two touchdowns and ran for a third while the Jets sacked him just once. Oh, and the aforementioned Najee Harris had 21 carries for 102 yards. He was also quick to credit the offensive line. It was a heck of a night for the Steelers offense in Russell Wilson’s first start for the team.

With a score of 5:2, the Steelers should be one of the top 10 teams in the league. They are one of nine teams with at least five wins this season. Even Cowherd, who seems reluctant to say anything good about the Steelers, forces himself to admit it.

Cowherd had the Steelers narrowly defeat the Seattle Seahawks, while the Kansas City Chiefs were his top team. The Baltimore Ravens took second place.
