Windsor police warn about door-knocking trend on TikTok

Windsor police are warning community members about the door-knocking trend on social media after residents made several calls.

The TikTok challenge encourages people to film themselves knocking on or kicking the front doors or garages of homes and then running away. Police say the acts typically occur at night or early in the morning and “can cause physical and emotional distress to residents.”

According to police, officers were called to two separate incidents in the past week, with an attempted break-in reported at a home in the 3000 block of Stillmeadow Road shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday. According to police, unknown suspects kicked in the front door before fleeing.

About an hour later, a group of teenagers allegedly went to a home in the area of the 7700 block of Hawthorne Drive, kicked in the front door and threw a rock through a window before leaving the area.

According to police, all suspects involved in both incidents are still unidentified.

Police are discouraging the community from participating in this trend because they say it could lead to criminal charges.
