The Streator Elks Club received approval for a national grant that will provide high school and middle school students with an evening of entertainment.

A free bowling night will be held at the Elks Club, 202 N. Park St., on Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. Free bowling, drinks, snacks, music and games are provided.

Middle and high school students in the Streator community are admitted upon presentation of a school ID. All students should use the Hickory Street entrance. There is an elevator for anyone who needs assistance. Adults will supervise the event. This will be the first student event offered by the Elks.

Students must also sign in and out at the entrance to the bowling alley. Once a student enters the bowling alley, re-entry is no longer possible. Misbehavior, including bullying, nonsense, foul language or violence will not be tolerated Events can be planned based on attendance/participation.

“The Streator Elks would like to thank those who are committed to giving back to our community,” said Don Horton, Trustee. “Special thanks to our Exalted Ruler Ashley Meiners and Treasurer Robert “Obie” Oberholtzer for organizing the grant application process and executing the project, as well as the local members of the Streator Elks.”

The Streator Elks also received a $2,000 grant for winter coats for students and a $1,500 contribution to the Streator Ramp Builders, which builds ramps for those in need.
