Regents hire firm to conduct nationwide search for next chancellor

A group of Texas A&M System Regents tasked with finding a successor to Chancellor John Sharp has hired Russell Reynolds Associates to conduct a nationwide search.

Chancellor Sharp announced last summer that June 30, 2025 would be his final day at the helm of the Texas A&M University System. Sharp, who took office on September 6, 2011, is already the longest-serving chancellor in the system’s history.

Chairman Bill Mahomes, Vice Chairman Robert L. Albritton, and Regents David Baggett and Jay Graham are members of the working group that will present the finalists to the full Board of Regents.

Members of the recruiting firm begin interviewing system leaders about the qualities needed for the next chancellor and the priorities that should be highlighted in the job description.

A successor is expected to be found before Sharp steps down.
