“They Stopped a Serial Killer” – Dahmer-obsessed murderer who slaughtered a Scottish war hero who was labeled a “weird” by neighbors

Horrified neighbors of a Jeffery Dahmer-obsessed killer fear the “strange man” would have “turned into a serial killer” if he wasn’t stopped.

Crawley was just 19 when he lured Paul Taylor to a secluded lane near Carlisle sex on October 18 last year – where he beat him to death in a brutal carnage attack before dismembering and then discarding his body.

On Monday, ailing Crawley was unanimously found guilty of murdering married father-of-two Mr Taylor.

The 56-year-old victim, from Annan, Dumfriesshire, suffered multiple blows to his skull, shattering it into hundreds of pieces, before he was set on fire and dumped in nearby Finglandrigg Wood.

A jury also found Crawley, now 20, attempted to murder another man with a hammer in January 2024 after he was arrested and bailed in connection with Mr Taylor’s death.

The body of married father-of-two Mr Taylor – whose sexual interest in men remained hidden from his family – was finally found in a skeletal state in May.

In November 2023, police officers swooped on the quiet Sheehan Crescent in Carlisle, where weirdo Crawley lived with his mother.

Residents of the street said the 6-foot-tall, pale and soft-spoken “strange man” walked around with his hood up on a sunny day and was nicknamed “creepy Crawley” by locals, The Times reports.

One local told the newspaper: “I always thought he was a weirdo, but I never thought he was capable of murder.”

Another resident described the scenes last year when armed police locked down their community for two weeks and began searching his family’s home.

They told how forensic scientists and specialist officers worked all night sorting and boxing evidence and even digging up the Crawley garden.

It later emerged that police had seized ropes, cable ties, tape, a knife and several masks, including a latex pig hood.

They added: “Ever since I found out why the police came here I’ve been in a fix. The whole thing is like a nightmare.

“If they hadn’t stopped him, I think he would have become a serial killer.”

We’ve previously told how Crawley exploited gay men to satisfy his murderous lust, just like notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, now the subject of two Netflix shows.

His twisted and twisted interests were also evident in his reaction to the death, as the freak was caught on CCTV grinning callously as officers accused Crawley of killing Mr Taylor.

The homophobic psychopath, who denied murder and attempted murder, now faces a life sentence after being unanimously convicted by a Carlisle Crown jury Court after a harrowing two-week trial.

MY VIEW OF THE COURT

by Gordon Tait

CHALK White Jack Crawley had to take a break from vomiting as the gruesome details of his mindless slaughter were laid out in brutality at Carlisle Crown Court.

He wasn’t the only one who felt sick.

As Paul Taylor’s family watched, the actual images taken from the shallow grave, showing his mutilated skeleton and destroyed skull – in 265 pieces – were revealed to all of us.

His elbow bone had been chopped off in a vain attempt to defend himself, and to top it off, we also saw the actual charred remains of the bones.

Rarely have such examples of extreme violence before and after death been shown so clearly.

It left one juror in tears, police and court staff watching open-mouthed in disgust – and pathetic Crawley miserable with disgust.

The outbreak of bloodthirsty violence that befell Paul Taylor is unimaginable.

Desecrating his corpse by stuffing it in the trunk of his car and taking it to a remote forest for further mutilation and burning was another level of depravity.

But just two months later, he attempted to kill another man using copying.

Under the cover of darkness, Crawley didn’t seem to care about killing. But now, in the cold light of day, the realization of its horrors may be too much to bear.

When the verdicts were announced, Crawley showed no emotion in the court hearing.

Mr Justice Goose told jurors he agreed with their verdicts and said he would sentence Crawley later this week.

“You have now been convicted of the charges as found by the jury and you are scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday at 11am. You will be brought to court for this purpose.”

Crawley remains in custody.

Last night CPS North West senior prosecutor Katie Marsden said: “Jack Crawley brutally attacked two men.

“The Crown Prosecution Service worked with Cumbria Constabulary and North Yorkshire Police to build a compelling case by piecing together forensic evidence, CCTV footage and phone location data to show that Crawley murdered and attempted to murder Paul Taylor to murder the second man.”

“My thoughts remain with Paul Taylor’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
