BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning!

THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Skies are mostly nice this morning, with a cool start and temperatures in the 40s and low 50s.

Expect more sunny skies with a light southerly breeze in the afternoon. Highs will reach the low 80s.

This October is currently tied with October 1924 as one of the driest Octobers on record. According to the National Weather ServiceThere was no rain in October 1924. October 2016 saw a trace of rain the entire month, and October 1938 saw 0.05 inches the entire month.

THE NEXT BIG THING It will be the warmer afternoons, with highs in the 80s this week. However, it remains cool in the morning. There is lots of sunshine every day.

A weak cold front will move in from the north late Saturday. This will cause temperatures to settle this weekend, with highs in the 50s overnight and highs in the mid 70s. Long-range models suggest another front will move in around Halloween, which could bring some showers.

It doesn’t look like much rain at this point, but rain is rain! Unseasonably dry to moderately dry conditions continue across the state.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Oscar is impacting eastern Cuba and the system will continue to move northeast, impacting the Bahamas and then moving back into the Central Atlantic.

This system will not pose a threat to the United States, and although hurricane season does not end until November, the likelihood that another tropical system could hit our state this year is extremely low.
