Lions WR Jameson Williams was suspended two games for violating the NFL’s drug policy

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Lions will be without Jameson Williams for the next two games after he violated the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. This is according to a report by Eric Woodyard of ESPN citing sources.

This means that the Lions will be without Williams in the home game against the Tennessee Titans (Sunday, October 27th) and the away game against the division rival Green Bay Packers (Sunday, November 3rd).

This is the second time in Williams’ career that he has been suspended. Last season, the speedy pass catcher was suspended four games (out of six games) after placing a bet on a non-NFL game. He said at the time that he couldn’t remember what he bet on or when he did it.

Williams was only available for 24 of a possible 40 regular-season games and missed much of his rookie season after recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the National Championship Game at Alabama.

So far this season, Williams has caught 17 passes for 361 yards and touchdowns and also ran for 32 yards on four attempts. In three seasons, he caught 42 passes for 756 yards and six touchdowns, using his elite speed to make big plays and take the lead from defenses. He also played a key role in the Lions’ playoff run last season, scoring a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the NFC Championship loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions returned to the first round to recruit him in 2022, selecting the Alabama wide receiver with the 12th overall pick.

The Lions currently lead the NFC and NFC North with a record of 5-1 after defeating the previously undefeated Minnesota Vikings last Sunday. Their game against the Titans this Sunday is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. EST.
