Quinn and McCrum take first place | News, sports, jobs

Andrew Quinn of Altoona prevailed in the boys race at the annual Blair-Huntingdon County High School Cross Country Race at Logan Elementary School on Monday.

Quinn finished the race in 17 minutes, 46 seconds and was honored along with senior teammates Enoch VanEgdom, Braden Lyle and Camdyn Woomer, who placed third in 18:06.

Tyrone’s Thomas Sutt finished fourth in 18:20.

On the girls side, Juniata Valley’s Ella McCrum finished nearly a minute ahead of Central’s Lanee Berkhimer, 20:15, to win. Berkhimer, who finished in 21:07, edged Ashlyn Noce of Altoona, who finished third, in 21:19.

Altoona honored seniors Alana Rinehart, Eva Drumm, Mary Stoltz, Gracie Gioiosa and Anna Resig.

Blair County and Huntingdon schools partnered with the Altoona PA Runners to raise cancer awareness funds for the American Association for Cancer Research.

MORRISDALE – The Cambria Heights boys cross country team defeated West Branch 15-49, and the Heights girls won 20-38.

Denis shoots 80

STATE COLLEGE – Hollidaysburg sophomore Crosby Denis scored a first-round 80 at the PIAA Class 3A girls golf championships at the Penn State White Course.

Denis was injured when he made double bogey on two par-5 holes, No. 3 and No. 18, but managed a birdie on No. 6.

Denis is currently tied for 22nd in the field of 36 players. Elizabeth forward junior Mya Morgan leads the event after shooting a 4-under-par 68.

In Class 2A, District 6 champion Madison Koshko, a junior from St. Joseph’s, shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead a field of 38.

Central Cambria senior Jazmine Boland shot a career-best 87 and is tied for 24th.

Bedford’s Josh Topper shot a 77 and is tied for 28th in a 2A boys field led by Alan Evans

Schuylkill Haven and Ethan Dai of Quaker Valley, who both shot 68.

Dylan Ramsey of Cedar Crest shot a 66 for the best round of the day and led the Class 3A boys competition. State College’s Luke McGraw, who won the District 6 title, shot a 3-under-par 69 and is tied for sixth.

Tyrone rolls

TYRONE – The Tyrone junior varsity football team dominated Penns Valley 41-12 in the season finale.

Jesse Parks scored three touchdowns and Ben Walk threw three touchdown passes.

TYRONE – Great Commission defeated Grier 4-2 in girls soccer.

Alexa Hall and Grace DiBiase each scored two goals for Great Commission.

Villano prevails

TYRONE – Von Villano shot a 1-under-par 53 on Sunday to win the par-3 18-hole Challenge at Sinking Valley Country Club.

Andrew and Gregory Ferguson tied for second place. Both shot an even par 54.

Villano also received two awards closest to the pin. Anthony Evangelisto, Mike Wilkinson, Tim Keech, Drew Brennan, Tony Minnoia and Brady Naylor also won Nest to the Pin awards.
