What are the critics’ initial reactions?

Venom: The Last Dance From the Los Angeles premiere, a number of early reviews from critics were released before full reactions to the threequel made their way online.

Tom Hardy’s super-powerful Sony franchise is officially coming to an end Venom: The Last Dancewhich is the longest of the three Poison Excursions. In addition to Hardy, there is an impressive supporting cast including Doctor Strange‘s Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ted LassoThe Juno Temple.

Sony hopes to get back on the right track with this Poison 3 after two crucial flops in 2022 Morbius and 2024 Madam Webeverything beforehand Kraven the Hunter closes the year. Both of the first two Poison The films did surprisingly well critically and financially, giving the studio hope The Last Dance will continue this trend.

First reviews of Venom: The Last Dance

Venom: The Last Dance

Following the Sony Pictures world premiere in Los Angeles, California, Venom: The Last DanceAfter the film’s review embargo was lifted, critics posted their first reviews and reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

The Wrap’s senior writer, Drew Taylor, classified the threequel as “The best of Poison films”, explain that it was so “not perfect” but that was it “super entertaining:”

“’Venom: The Last Dance’ is the best ‘Venom’ film – the madness has been significantly increased, but so has the heart. It’s not perfect, but it’s super entertaining and there’s a huge monster that chews people up and sprays blood.” Pretty crazy.

ComicBook’s Chris Killian enjoyed the film “classic guilty pleasure cinema” see it as one “Crazy Buddy Road Trip” this pushes the boundaries of the PG-13 rating:

“’Venom The Last Dance’ is a crazy buddy road trip that exceeds its PG-13 rating to the max. In short – ‘Venom 3′ is classic guilt-trip cinema. Turn off your brain and let Venom eat.” ’em.”

A second post from Killian praised the film’s use of villain Knull and his style “staged … as a future threat” I hope Tom Hardy’s run as Venom isn’t over yet:

“Knull is scary, I loved how they used him and portrayed him as a future threat. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this isn’t Tom Hardy’s last dance with Venom and that we’ll see him face to face with Spider-Man when we least expect it.

Praise was further voiced by Digital Spy’s Ian Sandwell, who felt that this film was the real deal “the most entertaining of the trilogy” and teased that fans might be able to find themselves “get emotional:”

“’Venom: The Last Dance’ is the most entertaining part of the trilogy. It’s mostly a fun and sweet road trip as Eddie and Venom live out their ‘Thelma & Louise’ refugee dreams, including car karaoke and dog rescue. You might even find yourself getting emotional.”

Screen Rant’s Joe Lidmeier was remembered “Early 2000s Comic Book Movies” while I’m also calling Poison 3 “A homage to action films from the 80s” from an action point of view, also with lots of holes:

“’Venom: The Last Dance’ takes you on a wild and exciting journey from start to finish! It’s a fun popcorn movie that reminds me of the comic book movies of the early 2000s. The action is great and is a homage to the action films of the 80s. Are there a lot of funny moments and some problems with the story?

“It’s the most cinematic and monumental Poison film so far,” proclaimed Josh Wilding of Comic Book Movie. The highlights for him were what he called Eddie Brock and Venom’s dynamic and the final act “CRAZY:”

“I saw ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ and it is the most cinematic and monumental ‘Venom’ film to date. Eddie Brock and Venom’s dynamic is at its strongest in this film and the stakes are high.” So much higher. I had a lot of fun with this…the final act is BONKERS!”

Wilding even compared it quite favorably to 2021 Venom: Let There Be Carnagecall it “Much meatier” from a plot point of view:

“Is it perfect? No, far from it. However, it’s way ahead of ‘Venom’ and has a much meatier plot than ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage.'” The ‘Spider-Man 4’ rumors are exaggerated in my opinion, but ‘Venom The Last Dance’ has (mostly) left me wanting more from these two.”

Longtime journalist Simon Thompson sees this film as a fun popcorn outing that fans are clamoring for “Grab some popcorn and enjoy this fast-paced road movie:”

“In ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ Tom Hardy gives it his all for an entertaining finale that fits the franchise. With a series of set pieces ranging from crazy to insane, the Venomenal action isn’t compromised. Take it for what it is.” Grab some popcorn and enjoy this fast-paced road movie.

What to take away from Venom: The Last Dance reviews

While both Poison Although the films did not achieve a 60% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, they both achieved an audience score of over 80%. They also grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office together – something that has been particularly impressive ever since Poison 2 debuted in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Poison 3 will introduce fans to a powerful new villain in Knull, who is sure to be the biggest threat to Eddie and Venom’s universe yet. Trailers teased Knull’s rise to power as he was revealed to be the source of all symbiotes, which predictably puts Venom in more danger than ever.

Following his brief affair in the MCU thanks Spider-Man: No Way HomeThe natural question is if or when Venom might get a proper meeting with Spider-Man. However, since this is a long way off, most viewers are simply hoping that Sony brings a fun and entertaining film first and foremost.

Fortunately, Poison 3 already appears to be setting up the future of the Sony Spider-Man universe after Knull debuts for the first time in this threequel. Where the franchise is going after this film and Kraven the Hunter is still unknown, but for now these reviews at least present a film that fans should have fun watching on the big screen.
