Sharky’s Sports Bar is being demolished

MT. MORRIS, Ill. (WIFR) – Sharky’s Sports Bar was demolished Monday, seven months after it caught fire.

The incident occurred on April 16, 2024. The fire attracted firefighters from across the region and took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. The fire destroyed the business and is still under investigation.

“Something has to be done. Well, maybe it wasn’t done on purpose, but that’s negligence somewhere and that’s exactly what I’m talking about in this city.”

Neighbors of the bar say the fire is a symptom of a larger problem in the village. “There is a lot going on in this city. The meth problem – that’s where we should start. This is the result of everything and no one is doing anything,” they said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but a neighbor of the bar said she saw what happened.

“That day I walked to the gas station, to Shell, probably about two hours before he blew it up, and he was out there shooting them all up with bottle rockets. He turned around – and it’s on camera at the banks, it’s on camera. So he turned around and threw one into the building and suddenly you heard everything explode.”

When WIFR contacted Mount Morris officials and the bar owner, both declined to comment.
