Long waits as early voting begins in Texas

Early voting is currently underway in Texas, and Travis County expects about 400,000 people to benefit from it in the next two weeks leading up to Election Day.

Early voting began at 7 a.m. and continues through Friday, Nov. 1, with some locations staying open late for the final two days.

People come to vote, although there are very long waiting times at some locations. Travis County officials told us the first and last days of early voting are the busiest, so wait times should calm down by tomorrow.

There are 42 early voting sites that you can check here along with your sample ballot and wait times. However, it is important to note that you can vote early at any polling location, even if it is not your designated location.

Most are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Eight of the locations will be open until 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st and Friday, November 1st.

“Here we can have a say in who represents us as president, as senator, as city council, as mayor: all in the vote,” said Travis County Judge Andy Brown. “This is the time when the best part of our democracy comes to life, and I encourage everyone to benefit from it.”

If you would like to mail in your ballot, the application deadline is Friday, October 25th.
