Celebrate National Fossil Day in Alabama with free educational exhibits, film screenings, fossils and more

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama’s National Fossil Day is back with an afternoon of activities centered around this year’s theme of Dinosaurs!

The event will take place on Saturday, November 2nd at the University of Alabama.

Gather the whole family and watch a free dinosaur documentary, participate in a question-and-answer session, attend the exciting fossil-packed presentation event – including real dinosaur fossils – and watch the Alabama Avocational Paleontologist Ceremony Award 2024.

The award-winning documentary “WHY DINOSAURS? follows dino-obsessed teenager James Pinto and his filmmaker father as they travel the world, interviewing paleontologists about the latest dinosaur research, excavating 150-million-year-old bones, and meeting dinosaur fanatics from all walks of life.

Although the event is free, participants are required to do so Reserve tickets via Eventbrite to be able to attend the documentary screening.

Be sure to stop by the tabletop event with various fossils to enjoy and learn, including real dinosaur fossils. There are various activities for all ages, including children, and free fossils (shark teeth) are distributed at at least one table. There will also be some prizes for dinosaur bone doors.

Location

The film screening, questions and answers and the awards ceremony will take place at Building for math and science classes (Room 1001) on The University of Alabama campus. The address is 411 Hackberry Lane, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35401.

The tabling event takes place in the Grand Gallery of Smith Hall is located at 427 Sixth Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35487.

Park

There are Free parking on campus in any available parking space near the auditorium and east side of the Alabama Museum of Natural History (Smith Hall).
