Tom Holland joins Christopher Nolan’s new film. What does this mean for Spider-Man 4?

Spider-Man star Tom Holland could travel to Christopher Nolan’s world. On Monday, reports suggested that Holland will star in Nolan’s currently untitled new feature film, which is hitting theaters Oppenheimer Distributor Universal Pictures will hit theaters and IMAX screens on July 17, 2026. This last detail is particularly interesting, especially in the context of Holland’s work as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in various projects for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. Early reports suggest that Holland will likely juggle production of Nolan’s film with the highly anticipated film in 2025 Spider Man 4and 2026 Avengers: End of the World. Spider Man 4 has been working in various functions for several years Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Director Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed he would direct in early fall. While Spider-Man 4 doesn’t currently have a confirmed release date, some fans have already started speculating that it could arrive in between End of the world and 2027 Avengers: Secret Wars.

“There’s still work to be done, but the writers are doing a great job,” Holland shared of the script Spider Man 4 earlier this month. “I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, sometimes jumping around the living room.”

As for Nolan’s mystery film, the director stated in a previous interview that the subject matter will not be as dark as Oppenheimer.

“I definitely want – part of me wants to leave the story behind,” Nolan explained. “I mean, it’s a great privilege to be able to talk about a film that you made and that’s now playing at home and on 4K and Blu-ray and everything else. It’s great to be able to sit here and talk to you about the success of the film. That is a great privilege. But the topic is very dark. It’s nihilistic. And yeah, there’s a part of me that’s very interested in moving on and maybe doing something, you know, not quite so dark.”
