2023 Oklahoma Sooners recap

Oklahoma won its first seven games of the 2023 season, including four straight wins to open the Big 12 Conference, highlighted by a 34-30 win over Texas, the Longhorns’ only regular-season loss last year. The Sooners then lost 38-33 at Kansas and 27-24 at Oklahoma State before rattling off three straight wins to close out the regular season. Oklahoma lost 38-24 to Arizona in the Alamo Bowl and finished the season 10-3.

Oklahoma Snapshot 2024

Oklahoma began the 2024 season 3-0 with wins over Temple, Houston and Tulane before falling to Tennessee 25-15 in its first-ever SEC game. The Sooners picked up their first SEC win at Auburn the following week, overcoming a 21-10 fourth-quarter deficit to win 27-21. Oklahoma will come to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium looking to end a two-game losing streak after losing 34-3 to Texas and 35-9 at home to South Carolina over the last two weeks.

Three players to watch: Ole Miss

  1. Jaxson Dart – Oklahoma’s pass defense is No. 10 in the SEC, allowing 214.6 yards per game. Will Dart have a breakout game in SEC play this weekend?
  2. Suntarine Perkins – Oklahoma ranks second to last in college football with 29.0 sacks allowed this season. The Rebels are now tied for seventh in the nation with 25 sacks per year. Look for a big game from the Rebel rushers.
  3. Tre HarrisTre Harris has battled through injury and still leads the nation with 141.0 receiving yards per game. With a week to heal, Harris needs just 13 yards to become the first receiver in the country to reach 1,000 yards this season.

Three players to watch: Oklahoma

  1. R Mason Thomas – R Mason Thomas is No. 3 in the SEC and No. 10 nationally with six sacks on the year. The Sooners rank third nationally with 25 sacks on the year. Ole Miss will have to work hard to keep Dart clean.
  2. Danny Stutsman – Danny Stutsman is No. 3 in the SEC and 27th nationally with 62 total tackles this year. The All-American linebacker will be key to disrupting the Rebels’ offense.
  3. Jackson Arnold – Jackson Arnold began the year as Oklahoma’s starting QB before losing the job in Week 4. Arnold returned last week against South Carolina. Can he revitalize an OU offense that ranks 128th nationally with 288.1 yards per game?
