What We Do in the Shadows, Lower Decks and more new TV series to watch

Halloween is fast approaching – just ask for our Halloween countdown calendar! So once again it’s no surprise that we’re getting more horror options with our new TV options for this week. But that’s not it all we get. This week in particular brings us the return of Lower deckswhich returns for its fifth and unfortunately final season.

But if you’re more interested in horror (which, let’s face it, who can blame you!) then you have two extremes to choose from: the comedic styles of What we do in the shadowswhich also returns for the final season, with a lot of excitement about who is a vampire and who isn’t; or you can opt for an even more gonzo brawl (free). Hellbound Season 2, which promises to continue all the chaos of the first season with more religious madness and smoke monsters.

Here are the best TV premieres to watch this week.

Genre: Hell in a Handbasket horror (with monsters)
Release date: Oct. 21, with all episodes
Showrunner/Maker: Choi Gyu-seok and Yeon Sang-Ho
Pour: Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-cheol and more

If season 1 of Hellbound was the end of the world as we know it, then the show’s characters probably won’t feel comfortable in Season 2. In a world where demons appear to be invading the mortal realm to claim those cursed with a countdown clock, Hellbound Season 2 picks up after the amazing twist at the end of the season: What happens if someone whose clock has reached zero doesn’t die?

What We Do in the Shadows Season 6

Genre: Vampire Nonsense (Free)
Release date: October 21st, with three episodes
Showrunner/Creator: Paul Simms
Pour: Harvey Guillén, Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry and more

Your favorite Long Island vampires are back! Unfortunately, this is the final season of the FX show, but rest assured there’s still a lot to do before then. Like Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), who evaluates his life after becoming a full-fledged vampire – who is he if not a familiar? What, if anything, will happen to Nadia’s (Natasia Demetriou) nightclub? Will Jackie drive Daytona again? These are the questions that concern us Night Day.

New shows on Paramount Plus

Genre: Stupid animated Star Trek
Release date: Oct. 24
Showrunner/Creator: Mike McMahan
Pour: Jack Quaid, Tawny Newsome, Eugene Cordero and more

Things are going great on the Cerritos – at least according to one captain. In fact it is Lower decks Season 5, and there’s a (maybe) wild axolotl, a few Kims, and a large boulder, just for starters.

New shows on Apple TV Plus

Genre: Psychological thriller
Release date: October 25th, with two episodes
Showrunner/Creator: Sarah Thorp
Pour: Billy Crystal, Judith Light, Rosie Perez and more

Eli (Billy Crystal) is a child psychologist who is recently widowed. Understandably, he’s pretty perplexed, and even more so when his next client is a troubled little boy who’s been pushed around by foster parents because they found him “annoying.” As if that wasn’t enough of a mystery for Eli, the boy seems to have a haunting connection to Eli’s past – something like “I can’t stop drawing the vision Eli keeps having of a certain house.”
