The Colorado State football team hosts a high-profile Mountain West football game in late October.

Despite a rocky start to the 2024 season, CSU returns home with a lead at the top of the conference standings.

Now the Rams host a New Mexico team with one of the top 20 offenses in the country.

According to BetMGM, Colorado State entered the game as a 5.5-point favorite.

What are the records?

New Mexico is 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West play. Colorado State is 4-3 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West play.

Mountain West standings

Four teams are tied at the top of the Mountain West standings. CSU, Boise State, UNLV and San Diego State are all 2-0 in conference play.

Boise State plays at UNLV on Friday, meaning one of those teams will be suffering a loss when the Rams take the field. San Diego State has a non-conference game this week (against Washington State), but the Aztecs play both Boise State and UNLV on the road later this season.

The Rams don’t play any of the other three in the regular season.

Who are the trainers?

Bronco Mendenhall is in his first season as New Mexico coach. The former BYU (11 years) and Virginia coach (six years) has compiled an overall record of 138-85 as a head coach. CSU is led by Jay Norvell, who is in his third season as head coach of the Rams and his eighth season overall as head coach. Norvell is 12-19 at CSU and 45-45 in his career.

What is the weather like in Fort Collins?

High temperatures of 74 degrees are expected Saturday with partly cloudy skies. Sunset at 6:03 p.m. will occur toward the end of the game.

Stadium information, tickets

The game will be played at Canvas Stadium on the CSU campus. Canvas Stadium has a seating capacity of 36,500. The Rams average announced attendance of 33,276 per game, including a program record 40,099 against Colorado.

Saturday’s game is CSU’s homecoming. The Rams announced late last week that about 90% of tickets had been sold. Tickets are available at CSURams.com/tickets. A sell-off is likely.

What is the series story?

Colorado State leads the all-time series 43-25. The Rams have won 12 in a row against the Lobos and 13 of the last 14. New Mexico’s last win in the series was in 2009 and the last time the Lobos won in Fort Collins was in 2006.
