“Good time to think about upgrades” Speaking of utility discounts

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Even though temperatures have dropped in mid-October, we still have another warm, dry week ahead, which means winter isn’t here yet. If you haven’t already taken steps to prepare your home for the colder weather, there’s still some time left.

Colorado Springs Utilities says you should stay ahead of the game when it comes to things around your home. This includes blowing out your sprinklers, sealing windows, and adjusting weatherstripping on doors. This way you can keep the warm air inside.

We spoke to Gabriel Caunt from the Energy Conservation Center. He says it’s important to update the equipment every year. This way you can be sure that it works as it should. This includes maintaining your furnace and replacing your air filters.

Caunt tells me it’s important to do these things before it gets cold to avoid an emergency call. “Now is a really good time to start looking at this – caulking gaps around things, caulking windows, making sure the weatherstripping is in place around your doors. The key is to prepare for the cold weather ahead of time.”

After some research, I found out more about the discounts Colorado Springs Utilities is offering this year. This year they are offering a new discount for crawl space insulation. This is in addition to the discounts they already offer on the furnace and thermostat.

I did some more digging and found a few more unique tips from Black Hills Energy on how to save money this winter. They recommend only running full loads of laundry and dishes to save water. They also say that you can skip the drying process on your dishwasher to save energy as well.
