Jennings County defeated Batesville in three sets to win the Lawrenceburg Class 3A volleyball sectional in a game broadcast on WRBI Saturday night.

South Decatur wins the 1A North Decatur sectional championship three sets to one over Morristown. The Cougars play against top-ranked Trinity Lutheran this Saturday night in the Edinburgh Regional.

Rising Sun edged Milan three sets to one in the 1A semifinals at Trinity Lutheran.

South Ripley fell to host Brownstown Central in straight sets in the 2A championship game.

And Franklin Community ended East Central’s season in three sets in the 4A title game on the Trojans’ home court.

Greenwood Christian defeated Oldenburg Academy 3-0 in the Class 1A regional football championship game in Knightstown. And Heritage Christian edged OA 3-1 in the 1A girls regional title game, also in Knightstown. Both Twisters games were heard on WRBI on Saturday.

East Central edged host Carmel in a shootout to win the 4A girls soccer regional championship. EC will face Center Grove on Saturday in the Martinsville semistate as the Trojans take on Center Grove.

The East Central girls won the team race at the Rushville cross country course on Saturday. Batesville finished second and OA finished tenth. The individual winner was Callie Bentley of the Trojans with a school record time of 18:07. Teammate Jena Weiler finished second with Batesville Lexiyne Harris finished third. Batesville won the boys race while East Central finished third. The Bulldogs’ individual champion was Jake Chapman with a time of 16:24.

Gabe Riehle of Milan was the individual winner with a time of 16:05 in the boys cross-country sectional race hosted by Southwestern (Hanover). Teammate Lucas Cooney came third. As a team, the Indians finished fifth. Milan’s Hannah Cooney took fifth place individually in the girls’ race in Hanover on Saturday.

Joe Hawkins of Greensburg qualified for the regional competition by placing ninth in the Brown County Section boys race; Fellow Pirate Alaina Bedel placed 15th in the girls division and will continue this weekend.

The top 15 individual cross country runners from non-promoting teams and the first five qualifying teams from each section advance to this Saturday’s Shelbyville Regional.

In the NFL, the Bengals defeated the Browns 21:14 in Cleveland yesterday. Joe Burrow threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns – one each to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered an Achilles tendon injury and is likely out for the year. Cincinnati improves to 3-4.

The Colts defeated the Miami Dolphins at home 16-10. Former tight end Dallas Clark was inducted into the Colts’ Ring of Honor at halftime. Indianapolis is now 4-3.

The matchup for this year’s World Series has been determined. The Los Angeles Dodgers doubled the New York Mets 10-5 and won the National League Championship Series four games to two. LA hosts the New York Yankees on Friday night in the first game of the Fall Classic.

Joey Logano took the checkered flag in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race in Las Vegas.
