Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column at the US bash, Dionne, who was joined at the ceremony by the Coming 2 America star, gushed: “She’s a triple threat, she sings, she dances and she’s an actress .”

“I saw her films, I got to know her, and when I got to know her, I found that she was doing all the research she could find on me.

“She knows more about me than I know about myself.”

She added: “I chose them personally – based on a few photos I found.

“One from her and one from me.

“We had them deployed together, and I can’t imagine anyone else ever doing that.”

In 2023, Teyana told The Tamron Hall Show of the film, “We’re already working on it. We are currently in the construction process. I always wanted to make sure I could get involved with whoever I wanted to play.”

She explained that she draws inspiration from Angela Bassett’s portrayal of Tina Turner in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do With It and Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray.

The One Thousand and One star said: “I miss when films were like that, when you could really get to know them and tap into them.”

Teyana revealed that she has been in regular contact with Dionne and is determined to ensure her story is properly told on the big screen.

She said: “We talk almost every day.

“I have always been a strong believer in safety and an advocate for safety. She’s had a wonderful career and I think right now it’s about making her feel as comfortable as possible to tell her story, because a lot of these stories are misinterpreted or dramatized to such an extent. We don’t really want to go there.”

Dionne had already announced the project in 2021, although she hinted that it would be a television series.

The music legend told Entertainment Weekly: “(Teyana) is certainly a talented young lady that I had the pleasure of connecting with.”

“She’s very excited about the prospect of being part of it and she’s also going to be very, very involved in directing it and putting parts of it together as we imagine it.”
