Arkansas volleyball falls to Texas A&M in 4 sets

The Arkansas volleyball team took the first set at Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon, but the Aggies fought back to claim a 22-25, 25-23, 25-6, 25-16 victory in SEC play.

The Razorbacks (14-4, 4-2 SEC) were unable to recover from a disastrous third set in which they were negative with four kills on 10 errors. Texas A&M (13-4, 4-3) jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back.

Aniya Madkin finished the game with a game-best 12 kills for Arkansas, while Romani Thurman added 10. Senior setter Hannah Hogue finished the game with a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs. Courtney Jackson added a team-high 14 digs.

The Aggies used a 10-4 surge to break away from an 8-8 tie in the fourth set. Logan Lednicky finished the match with 18 kills and his teammate Emily Hellmuth added 16 for Texas A&M.

The Razorbacks won the first set after a strong shot from Thurman. She finished with six kills without errors in ten swings, including the deciding set. They erased a 23-18 deficit and reached a 23-23 tie in the second set, but the Aggies scored the last two goals on a kill and an ace from Hellmuth.

Arkansas hosts Missouri on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville.
