Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to PC in 2025, leaked DLC is canceled

It’s clear that the leaks have hurt Insomniac.

Sony has officially announced it Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the PC.

In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac community manager Aaron Jason Espinoza confirmed the announcement of Marvel’s New York Comic Con panel this weekend. As expected, the game has been ported by Nixxes and will be released on January 30, 2025 on both Steam and the Epic Game Store.

They also revealed that there will be a standard and a digital deluxe edition for both platforms. The Standard Edition includes all of the PlayStation 5’s free updates, while the Digital Deluxe Edition offers early unlocks for some items, 5 additional skill points, additional Photo Mode items, and 5 exclusive suits each for Peter and Miles.

Unfortunately, Espinoza also confirmed something that Insomniac never officially announced or confirmed. In his words:

“While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we are excited to bring all of our previously released post-launch content to the PC version, including New Game+, new suits and color variants, photo mode features , and more.”

As you may already know, Insomniac fell victim to a ransomware hack in late 2023, leaking information from the studio and its parent company Sony. As Game4index tweeted, this is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 The DLC roadmap that was part of the leaks has been canceled.

Although we noticed that Sony and Insomniac missed the milestones of this roadmap, there was still hope that DLC could be released. January 2024 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 The update included data that suggested that the Marvel character Beetle, who was featured in this leaked roadmap, could be added to the game.

It’s certainly disappointing news, but the whole situation raises questions about leaks as well as Insomniac and Sony’s current financial viability.

Players must now be wondering if the DLC was canceled because it was leaked or if that was because of that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not meet sales expectations. We also know from the leaks that the game had a budget of $315 million and sold over 11 million units as of April 2024.

Additionally, 2.5 million units were sold in the first yearst 24 hours and set the record for the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game. Unfortunately, that $315 million is higher than any other Spider-Man film made so far, and while it’s clear that the game has broken even, expectations were also clearly set at a much higher bar.

Insomniac is one of many Sony video game studios that have suffered from layoffs, and unfortunately this was also leaked before employees knew about it. We’ve learned a lot about the industry from these leaks, but we’re definitely going to be uncomfortable knowing so much at all.
