A Greater Manchester student said he was “excited” after a song he wrote was included in the latest version of the country’s best-selling video game, FC 25.

Alex Spencer from Droylesden appears alongside big names such as Coldplay, Billy Eilish and Kasabian on the soundtrack of the football game formerly known as FIFA.

The 17-year-old, who got the call on the bus that it would be featured on the game’s soundtrack, said it was “a dream come true.”

“I jumped up with excitement,” he said.

The song is called “Nightmares” and Alex said he hopes that in “a few months” players will have learned the entire soundtrack “by playing for hours a day.”

It was “the best marketing” for his song, he said.

The game sold more than two million copies in the UK last year.

“A silly little song I wrote is supposed to reach all these people, that’s what you want, isn’t it?” he said, adding that he’s already seen his Spotify listens reach 8,000 per month had risen to 45,000, “which I “I’m buzzing around”.

Touring dream

Alex said he now hopes to build on his previous success and is currently finishing his first UK tour with his band, having played top venues in Manchester such as the Ritz and Academy Two and Three.

“The dream now is just for the tours to sell out,” he said.

“I want to end up in this radio play on Radio 1. I guess when the debut album comes out I want to be in the top 10 of the charts and perform at festivals.”

“But I think with a little more hard work and a few years of meeting new people I will build a following and headline Glastonbury one day.”

However, he won’t be able to listen to his own music through the game since his parents don’t allow him to play.

“I’ve never had access to a console, so that kept me busy with my music,” he said. “Mom’s rules.”
