Surprise! Binge gets live sports through the Kayo integration

Despite announcing another Binge price hike last week, Foxtel Group has revealed that the homegrown platform will integrate live and on-demand sports channels directly from Kayo Sports.

To kick things off in style, the platform will stream the back-to-back AFLW Grand Final and WBBL Grand Final on November 30 and December 1 respectively. The platform will also stream summer sports without commercial breaks during play.

The addition of Kayo Sports channels now makes Binge an even better option for sports fanatics on tighter budgets: Binge’s plans start at just AU$10 per month for the basic ad-supported version, compared to spending AU$25 per month with Kayo. As expected, customers at this tier will continue to receive advertising when watching sports content.

While we don’t expect Binge to feature as much content as the sports streamer, it will apparently stream popular and well-watched events in 2025, including Big Bash League, Super Netball, and NRL and AFL football simulcast -Games.

Binge will also stream more live news channels from major international and local broadcasters, with Sky News, CNBC and Fox Sports News joining the platform’s existing offering. Additionally, the platform will expand its lifestyle content offering by adding a live channel featuring global franchises and local adaptations of hit shows such as Selling Houses Australia, Great Australian Bake-Off and Love It or List It Australia.

Surprisingly, the integration comes at no additional cost to subscribers, regardless of which tier they are subscribed to. However, we can assume that these additions will be included in the standard tier increase that is scheduled to occur for existing customers starting November 1st.

One aspect that is currently not clear is whether Standard or Premium tier customers will be able to watch sports content in 4K. We’ve reached out to Binge for clarification and will update this article as soon as we hear back.

Julian Ogrin, CEO of Binge and Kayo, said in a statement from Foxtel Group Direct that the company is “changing the streaming game” by offering Binge subscribers the best of Kayo Sports.

“We have built Binge into a leading platform that brings together live and on-demand entertainment, sports, news and lifestyle content on one platform,” says Ogrin.

A possible Binge/Max integration seems more likely

Now that this content integration cat is out of the bag, we can assume that this may not be the only addition Binge subscribers will receive next year.

When we reported that HBO streamer Max was officially coming to Australia in 2025, we speculated that there could be some sort of integration between the two, as Max’s launch in other regions suggests. Japan recently welcomed Max’s content catalog through a partnership with local streamer U-Next, allowing users to stream Max’s shows and movies at no additional cost.

While adding Kayo Sports to the binge mix wasn’t necessarily on our streaming services’ bingo map, this integration could actually open the door for Australian viewers to access more HBO’s catalog through a local partnership with Max.

But until we learn more details about how Max will inevitably fare on the Australian streaming scene, it’s safe to say that Binge is here to stay, while also bringing an even bigger win to sports fans.
