WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden toasted the unveiling of a long-awaited, reimagined public tour of the White House on Sunday.

The couple hosted a dinner to celebrate the first lady’s update on the public tour of the White House. The updates will be released on Monday.

“We inspire future generations to write the next chapter” of the history of the White House, President Biden said in a speech to guests, calling himself and the first lady “temporary tenants” of the “People’s House.” The president’s term ends just months after he decided in July to end his candidacy for a second term.

Jill Biden, who led the overhaul of the White House tour, said: “While tonight is the end of some of our work, it is just the beginning of this new chapter of public tours of the White House.”

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as your First Lady.”

The updates come amid Washington, D.C.’s so-called off-season – the period between the region’s peak tourism season and the off-season – as well as an upcoming presidential election that has the White House preparing for a change in administration.

Last year, a new attraction was created to give tourists a glimpse into the White House.

A new tourist attraction offering visitors a replica of President Joe Biden’s Oval Office opened in September at the People’s House: A White House Experience. Few people ever enter the Oval Office. It is not on the White House public tour route.

Tours of the White House are free and can be requested through the White House or a member of Congress.
