Marvel stole its Avengers: Endgame credits idea from a Star Trek film

Frankly, it’s amazing that the original Star Trek cast managed to make six films together. The Enterprise crew was already middle-aged when they first came together for Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. Then the 1982 sequel “The Wrath of Khan” made it clear that Captain Kirk no longer felt as young as he once did. Yet they all continued to return for nine years.

They didn’t quite make it to Star Trek Xii: So Very Tired, but they made it halfway. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country definitely wasn’t the end of Trek, but it was for the original cast. It was designed that way, hence the ending in which the Enterprise is decommissioned and Jim Kirk says in his final captain’s log that it’s time for the next generation to have their moment in the sun.

Because the production of this film was the culmination of a journey that began in 1966, the cast held a special memorial service.
