Nic Nemeth [Dolph Ziggler] Reflects the legendary WWE Money in the Bank cash-in

Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, has thanked WWE fans for his cash-in at Money In The Bank 2013.

At Slammiversary in July, Nic Nemeth was crowned TNA World Champion for the first time after defeating five other men in an elimination match. Since then, the star has successfully defended the gold medal against the likes of Mustafa Ali, Moose and Josh Alexander.

This isn’t the first time Nemeth has held a world title, however, as he became a two-time World Heavyweight Champion in the WWE under the name Dolph Ziggler over a decade ago. His first reign lasted just a week in 2011 and came about under strange circumstances. Adam Copeland seemingly defeated the star with a spear, but then-GM Vickie Guerrero deemed the move illegal and awarded the gold to Ziggler instead.

However, Nemeth’s second reign was more legitimate. The star won the Money In The Bank briefcase in the 2012 edition of the multi-man ladder match. He then went on a losing streak, but ultimately won when he beat Alberto Del Rio to great applause from the fans.

Nemeth reflected on the memorable win during an appearance on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw and thanked fans for making the achievement happen in the first place.

“The reason for this reaction and this moment was 100% the fans. For example, back then I was the guy with the briefcase who was always trying to make money – getting kicked in the face or something.

“It got to a point where they thought they were either going to take it away from me or, when I wanted to cash in, that I wasn’t going to get it. I would lose the match or something. But the reason why the crowd was so big in advance was Vince.

“He said, ‘Listen, I know you’re losing a lot’ -[I’m like] About 99% of the time – but he says, “I know you’re losing a lot, and now with this briefcase you’re going to lose even more, and it’s going to be a bigger deal.” But the next day, after you finally cash that in, everything changes.” So we did that, kept it [losing] more and more.”

“I’ve never heard anything like that” – Nic Nemeth aka. Dolph Ziggler on the crowd’s reaction to money in the bank deposit

When Nemeth actually cashed in, he was shocked at how well the moment was received, saying he had never heard anything like the ovation he received for his win.

“[I] finally cashed in. I was like, ‘Man, I hope people are into it.’ They seem kind of lively and fun.’ I’ll never forget my music hit – it had a two second delay – and it’s like a stab all over my body.

“I said, ‘Whoa! what’, and I still had to stay focused and be in the moment, go there to do it. But I’ve never personally heard anything like that.

“It was because they stuck with the guy who kept losing and failing to make money. They said, ‘Okay, we’re going to help this guy,’ and they did. We got it and they lost their minds. It was so much fun.”

Nic Nemeth’s next defense will be defending the TNA World Title against Joe Hendry at Bound For Glory on October 26th.
