The Dutch soccer team runs past Luther

With 324 yards on 55 rushing attempts with 11 different ball carriers, the Central College football team earned a 56-3 victory over Luther College on Saturday afternoon, broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Dutch (5-2, 3-2 American Rivers Conference) scored the game’s first touchdown without making an offensive play. A Luther punt went into the back of a personal protector and landed in the end zone, where senior linebacker Joe Jansen jumped on it. A few minutes later, the offense got its chance and quarterback Brady Ketchum connected with Keegan Glover for a 65-yard touchdown pass. Ketchum was 6 of 6 passing for 111 yards on the day and added a five-yard touchdown shovel pass to tight end Grant Nelson in the second quarter.

Central scored four more offensive touchdowns in the first half. Jase Grunder had two rushing touchdowns while Cody Klein scored his first rushing touchdown. Coming out of a timeout late in the first half, Glover hit an unguarded Jack Johnson for a three-yard touchdown pass. Freshman quarterback Cole Duty rushed for a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter for Central’s final score. The special teams had a second turnover when a Norse kick returner deflected a ball and junior linebacker Gabe Orris dove on it to set up Central’s seventh touchdown.

Grunder and Klein finished the game with 76 and 57 yards on the ground, respectively, while Eli Rouse added 49 yards. Glover and Nelson were among five Dutch players who each had two balls at their disposal. Six other Central players had a catch, while five quarterbacks completed a pass. In total, Central accumulated 537 yards and outgained the Norse by 410 yards. Defensively, the Dutch held Luther to 127 total yards and just 51 yards until halftime, when most of Central’s starters were taken out of the game. Central had four sacks and eight tackles for loss. Linebacker Cael Fiderlein led Central with six tackles, while linebacker Austin Burns had five. A Norse field goal late in the third quarter cost the Dutch their second shutout of the season.
