Shriners Children’s Open: Doug Ghim and JT Poston share PGA Tour lead as darkness halts play | Golf News

Doug Ghim and JT Poston had a share of the lead at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas when play was suspended due to darkness Saturday night.

With 12 players within two shots of the lead and 23 within four shots, the third round concludes Sunday morning before the fourth and final round at TPC Summerlin.

Ghim made a big move on Saturday, birdieing his final four holes and shooting at seven under to 16 before play was suspended.

He was joined at 15 under by Poston, who was two under through 13 holes in his third round.

Kurt Kitayama and Gary Woodland each shot 6-under rounds of 65 holes on Saturday to remain at 14-under. They are joined by Harris English and Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti, who are both 4 under through 14 holes in the third round.

South Korea’s KH Lee is at 13 under in the clubhouse after a 65 in the third round. He is tied for seventh with JJ Spaun (five under through 17 holes), Davis Thompson (five under through 16), Norman Xiong (one-under through 13), Canadian Taylor Pendrith (three under through 13) and the German Matti Schmid (same par up to 13).

Ghim recorded three birdies and nine pars before hitting his stride. He made birdies on the par-5 13th hole, the par-3 14th hole, the par-4 15th hole and the par-5 16th hole before play was suspended.

“Yeah, obviously it was a very pleasant route and it was a lot nicer today, definitely a lot less wind in the afternoon,” Ghim said.

“So, 13 playing against the wind, 14 against the wind, 15 against the wind, 16 against the wind – you’ll have a lot of options. It’s definitely the way you want to play it and you’re just lucky enough to see the look and actually convert.”

“I’m just happy that we can finish the tournament. I’m sure everyone would have liked to have finished today. At the same time, it’s not our first rodeo.”

Poston parred every hole he played in the third round except one, when he hit the par-five ninth. He cut the green in half before making a three-foot putt.

Earlier Saturday, Poston, who tied for third in the event last year, finished the delayed second round with a birdie-eagle-birdie par to move into a tie with Schmid for the lead.
