Open house scheduled for Sunday will unveil new offices and practice space for QU music department – Muddy River News

QUINCY – Quincy University’s music department has moved all offices and practice rooms to the Connie Niemann Center for Music, 17th and Seminary Road.

In a press release, Christine Damm, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communication, said, “QU’s music program is so excited about the renovated space. The new offices, practice rooms and classrooms adjacent to the Connie Niemann Center for Music provide a cohesive space for our students and growing music program.”

Until these renovations were completed, music program facilities were located in two buildings on North Campus. All of the music department’s offices, classrooms, practice rooms, and music library are now located in the Connie Niemann Center for Music. These improvements were made possible through a portion of a grant the university received from the Illinois Board of Higher Education in January 2024.

“This renovation has really helped us feel recognized as a department,” said Alanna Edgecomb, a music major. “Overall, it helped renew our enthusiasm and enabled us to do our best for ourselves and for QU.”

The music department will host an open house on October 20 following the Hawk Express Jazz Band’s fall concert.
