Texas Longhorns fall to Georgia after failed second-half comeback attempt

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns showed their mortality Saturday night against the Georgia Bulldogs, losing 00-00 in Austin.

In what many considered the game of the year, the Longhorns once again suffered from a slow offensive start to the evening.

This slow start was somewhat saved by the performance of the defense, which forced two early turnovers and prevented things from getting too out of hand.

Still, the Longhorns’ offense couldn’t get anything going, even when they resorted to a quarterback change late in the half. That move proved futile, however, as the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 23-0 lead.

However, in the second half, the Longhorns came to life, marching down the field for a score and a two-point conversion from Isaiah Bond by Quinn Ewers. The Horns then used a controversial interception to get right back into the game and scored a few plays later, making it 23-15 to the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs finally answered the Longhorns after a long drive and fourth-and-goal, extending their lead to 30-15.

From there, the Longhorns were unable to gain any serious momentum, sealing the loss.

Offensively, the Longhorns totaled just 259 yards of offense, including 230 yards through the air on 25 of 43 completions by Ewers. Ewers was also responsible for three turnovers with one interception and two fumbles. Matthew Golden led the way for the Horns with three catches for 77 yards.

Meanwhile, for the Bulldogs, Carson Beck had a turbulent night, completing 23 of 41 passes for 174 yards and three interceptions.

As a team, the Longhorns allowed the Bulldogs 283 total yards of offense, including 108 on the ground. Georgia’s 30 points were also the most the Longhorns had scored in the last four games combined.

The Longhorns will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Nashville to take on the surging Vanderbilt Commodores.
