Selena Gomez revives the peekaboo bra trend at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala

Selena Gomez brings texture to the red carpet at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday. The actress and singer wore a navy suede halter dress with an exposed leather bustier, accessorized with statement chrome bracelets and earrings.

Gomez was styled by Erin Walsh, who is also known for dressing celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Elizabeth Banks.

Hairstylist Marissa Marino styled the Only Murders in the Building star’s brunette lobes in a slicked-back style, while makeup artist Hung Vanngo gave her bronze eyeshadow, mauve blush and a matching glossy lip.

On Tuesday, Gomez gave the little black dress a business casual twist while attending a SAG-AFTRA Foundation screening of her new film “Emilia Perez” in New York. She wore a double-breasted blazer by Nensi Dojaka over a ruffled shirt dress by Francesca Miranda and paired both pieces with Christian Louboutin pumps.

Earlier this month, Gomez’s makeup brand, Rare Beauty, teamed up with Sephora for Mental Health Day to raise money for the Rare Impact Fund, a charity that supports mental health services for young people. All proceeds from the Rare Beauty sales at Sephora on October 10th were donated to the Rare Impact Fund.

“The mental health crisis continues to disproportionately impact young people, and partners like Sephora are instrumental in helping to achieve this, not only by believing in this mission, but also by providing critical funding to expand mental health resources for the young to people who need it,” Gomez said in a statement.

Several celebrities have tried the peekaboo bralette layering trend this year, including Natalie Portman, Sydney Sweeney and Kristen Stewart, who revived the style after it had a big moment in 2023. Lingerie-inspired looks have dominated the runways of Miu Miu, Fendi and Elie Saab in recent seasons, leading to a proliferation of bra tops on the red carpet.

The Academy Museum Gala is an annual fundraising event hosted by members of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The gala raises money to support the museum’s cinema exhibitions as well as educational and public programs, among other things.
