Deseret News video ‘A Revolution’ highlights 1984 football team – Deseret News

During a storybook football game that included a last-second win over Oklahoma State that allowed the Cougars to remain undefeated with a 7-0 record – similar to games played during the school’s historic march to a national title 40 years ago – BYU honored players from the university’s 1984 national soccer team. Robbie Bosco, along with his former teammates, lit the Y during pregame ceremonies Friday night.

Forty years ago, Bosco and his teammates were second to none. Now, four decades later, Deseret News sportswriters Lee Benson, Dick Harmon and Dave McCann reflect on their remarkable rise to the top of the country.

In this Deseret News video titled “A Revolution,” Benson, Harmon and McCann join a panel to share memories, reflections and never-before-told stories about BYU’s rise.

“They passed almost 50 out of 80 plays a game,” Benson said. “And it was something no one had ever seen before.”

The stats BYU teams put up under LaVell Edwards “were just crazy,” Harmon said.
