The People’s Community Alliance provides a one-stop shop with free food distribution

FRUITLAND, Md. – On Saturday, the People’s Community Alliance hosted its pop-up one-stop shop at Fruitland Primary.

Using food provided by the Maryland Food Bank and other community resources, volunteers loaded bags of chicken and fresh fruits and vegetables and distributed them without hindrance to anyone in need.

Organizers said you never know who might be struggling, but these resources are especially important for older people.

“I interact with seniors every day and it’s amazing how they can’t decide whether to buy groceries, get medicine, turn on the electricity, you know, things like that. That’s why I always offer, you know, ‘Here we are, third Saturday of the month,'” said Melanie Donovan of the Salisbury Lions Club.

Donovan added that they will also have winter essentials such as gloves, hats and blankets available for distribution at their December event at Wicomico County Stadium.
